A Wedding To Remember

Saturday, my weekend in Boston continued with Cristina and Chris’ wedding. One of the best I’ve ever attended, the 130-person event was truly an affair to remember.

Following a nuptial mass at Cathedral of the Holy Cross, the festivities continued at Boston’s Omni Parker House – America’s longest continuously- run hotel, located next to Beacon Hill.

During the cocktail hour, I chatted with Cristina’s sweet twin brother and Man of Honor Robert. We shared a laugh when he quipped that he refrained from adjusting the bride’s train for fear that traditionally female gesture might end up on YouTube.

I also caught up with my former work husband and good friend Morty. Morty filled me in on phD application overload (he’s applying to 15 psychology programs), and we debated the subtle yet important distinction between desire and need when it comes to the object of one’s affections.

Eventually, everyone made their way upstairs to the ballroom, elegant with its dark, wood paneling and decorated with a Christmas tree and Baby’s Breath centerpieces. A snowflake ornament adorning each place setting completed the festive holiday theme.

All Smiles: the beautiful bride and me

After the Best Man said a few words, Chris spoke from the heart with gratitude for his parents and in-laws – and abiding love for his beautiful bride. Recalling the day he met Cristina six years ago, Chris said he knew then it was forever.

“You are the love of my life,” he said. “You’re the only person I’ve ever loved.”

Wow.

Speaking of wow, the DJ impressed with a perfect mix of dinner-appropriate tunes (including Sinatra in heavy rotation) and lively dance songs. Knowing my affection for Ricky Martin, Cristina had him kick off the booty shaking with “Livin’ La Vida Loca.”

Not only did I shake, as Morty put it, all three of my moneymakers but I managed to forget about my injured leg. One of the bride’s relatives later told me--

“You should be on Broadway!”

Along with everyone else, I also got my groove on to such crowd pleasers as “All The Single Ladies,” “Disco Inferno,” “Don’t Stop The Music” and “I Gotta Feeling.”

What a celebration. When a couple is so perfect for each other like Cristina and Chris, you can’t help but be overjoyed to watch them embark on happily ever after – and feel hopeful all over again in finding it yourself.

Up Close With Lauren Luke

Thursday, I headed over to Sephora’s brand-new location in Times Square for the U.S. launch of Lauren Luke’s new makeup kits.

With her wildly popular makeup tutorial videos on YouTube -- broadcast from a webcam in her bedroom -- Lauren has become an international sensation beloved by her fans for her sense of humor and down-to-earth personality.

Meeting Miss Luke: Lauren and me at her Sephora debut

After an inspiring video about her rise to fame (that included a meet and greet with Queen Elizabeth), I had the pleasure of chatting with the 27-year-old England-born single mom. Soft spoken and absolutely charming, Lauren said she first fell in love with cosmetics as a teen. Her top beauty inspirations -- Megan Fox and Deeta Von Teese.

Even with her phenomenal success, Lauren remains approachable and fully connected to her thousands of followers via Facebook, MySpace and Twitter. She’s an awesome example of what can happen when true passion and talent intersect with the power of social media.

Lauren has developed five fabulous makeup kits that you can order here. Sephora will launch the kits nationwide across 135 stores next month.

Inside The GLAAD Awards

Saturday night, I attended the 20th annual GLAAD Media Awards, recognizing excellence in representations of the LGBT community.

Held at the Marriott Marquis hotel in Times Square, the two hour plus ceremony included nominees in film, television, documentary and journalism -- and featured celebrities from each of those realms.

The evening kicked off with presenters and former “Law & Order” co-stars S. Epatha Merkerson and Chris “Mr. Big” Noth.

As I mentioned on Sunday, I managed to catch Chris just as he was leaving and get a picture with him. My heart was racing as I told him I “really, really, really, really” appreciated it. At 53, the man still has what it takes to make this single gal swoon.

After my Big encounter, I returned to my seat in the balcony of the Marquis’ Broadway Ballroom.

Actress Judith Light introduced a moving montage of historical figures in the LGBT movement, from Brandon Teena and Matthew Shepard to Harvey Milk and Ellen DeGeneres. Among the additional star-studded presenters were actress/singer Vanessa Williams…

…and “Gray’s Anatomy” star T.R. Knight. Special Recognition Awards were given to Suze Orman and Phil Donahue, while MSNBC anchor Keith Olbermann was recognized for his segment and YouTube sensation criticizing California’s passage of Proposition 8.

As I watched the GLAAD winners take to the stage, I couldn’t help thinking about past award galas I’ve attended at the Marquis.

Back in 1990, I watched my good friend A Martinez win a Daytime Emmy for Best Actor for his work on NBC’s “Santa Barbara.” Just a few years ago in 2007, I enjoyed the recognition of my peers as well, picking up (along with my Quinn & Co. colleagues) the HSMAI Adrian Award for Best Travel PR Campaign of the year.

Yes, it’s definitely an honor to be nominated. But, as Kate Winslet said after picking up her long-awaited Oscar -- winning is a lot better!

My YouTube Encore

I recently had the opportunity to revisit my TV background by participating in a video shoot for a client, The Westin New York at Times Square (http://www.westinny.com/).

To celebrate The Westin’s upcoming sixth birthday, The Westin has just launched a contest inviting kids and teens to pen an original birthday tune. The prize—a trip for four to celebrate New Year’s Eve at The Westin, complete with Champagne and dinner at Shula’s Steak House.

Having spent two years as a news reporter, I was thrilled to be on camera again. Though I wouldn’t quit my current day job as a travel publicist, a small part of me will always have the TV bug. How fortunate I am to be able to satisfy that bug every now and then..

You can check out my YouTube/Westin NY clip at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNcMESD2hf0 . For more details about the contest, visit http://www.westinny.com/birthday

A footnote -- The Westin NY video marks my second YouTube appearance. My first was a dance onboard a Royal Caribbean cruise unexpectedly caught on video by my cute partner’s friend (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HF4VfiSYdpo). Good times.
